Dr. Amir Ravandi is an Associate Professor and Research Director in the Section of Cardiology at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. He serves as an interventional cardiologist at St. Boniface Hospital and holds cross-appointments in the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology. He is a Principal Investigator at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre.
Education: Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry, University of Toronto), PhD (Banting and Best Medical Research Institute, University of Toronto), MD (University of Toronto), followed by residencies in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at McMaster University. He completed fellowships in Coronary and Peripheral Vascular Interventions at the University of California, San Diego.
Research focuses on lipid oxidation products in cardiovascular diseases, using lipidomics and mass spectrometry to study their roles in myocardial ischemia, reperfusion injury, and vascular pathology. His work aims to identify therapeutic strategies to mitigate lipid-induced tissue damage.
He currently accepts Master’s and PhD students. Awards include the Dr. F. W. Du Val Clinical Research Professorship (2016–2019).
Labs/Teams: Leads research at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, focusing on cardiovascular lipidomics and translational cardiology.
