Amii Obiakara-Amaechi

Dr. Amii Obiakara-Amaechi is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Science, University of Lagos, specializing in Marine Biology with a focus on ecosystem health, pollution management, and risk assessment. She has over a decade of experience in teaching and research, particularly addressing anthropogenic stressors, microbial contamination, and climate change impacts on tropical marine ecosystems.

Her research emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to marine pollution, including antibiotic governance in aquaculture, biomarker assessments for fish stress responses, and heavy metal contamination analysis. Through collaborations with institutions like the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and the Global Centre for Environmental Remediation, she advances science-informed policy and capacity-building initiatives.

Recent publications highlight her work on antibiotic misuse in Ghanaian fisheries, stress responses in Nigerian farmed fish, and contamination dynamics in tropical lagoons. Her scientific awards include the Exceptional Scholar Awardee (UK, 2022) and recognition as an exemplary journal reviewer (Elsevier/Springer Nature, 2016).

Dr. Obiakara-Amaechi actively contributes to organizations such as the Society of Toxicology (SOT) and the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science initiative, promoting inclusive science and sustainable development in West Africa and globally.
