Amber Rose Johnson is a Research Fellow in the Department of English at McGill University (2023–2024), concurrently serving as a PhD Candidate in English and Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Her interdisciplinary work centers experimental poetics, Black Diasporic critical theory, and embodied language practices. She is based in Philadelphia, originally from Providence, RI.
Johnson’s research interrogates how language and embodiment reshape cultural narratives, informed by Black feminist and critical race frameworks. She curates the Mess + Process conversation series and coordinates the Black Cultural Studies Collective. Her editorial work includes Colored People Time (ICA Philadelphia) and contributions to BOMB, Bookforum, and Jacket2.
Her practice bridges academic and creative spheres, emphasizing collaboration and reimagining critical methodologies. Current projects explore intersections of poetry, performance, and decolonial thought.
