Amanda Wise is a Professor at Macquarie University's School of Communication, Society and Culture, and affiliated with the Housing and Urban Research Centre. Her research focuses on social inequalities, migration, urban sociology, and multiculturalism, with a particular emphasis on global cities like Singapore and Australia. She holds a PhD in Cultural Research (Anthropology) from Macquarie University and a BA (Hons) in Sociology from the University of Wollongong.
Her current research projects include investigating social resilience among migrant communities through informal sport (Australian Research Council Discovery Project 2022–2024) and exploring wellbeing in Australia’s gig economy migrant workers (ARC 2023–2025). She has extensive experience in advising on multicultural policies and has supervised numerous PhD projects on topics like everyday multiculturalism and migrant labor.
Teaching includes courses such as 'Living Diversities: Racism & Co-existence Today' and 'Urban Century: Movement, Cities & Space'. Her work bridges urban ethnography, transnational migration, and social justice, with a focus on how public spaces, labor dynamics, and cultural practices shape urban communities.
Key projects include the Vertical Villages pilot study on urban density and community building, and analyses of transnational affect among migrant workers.
