Amanda Regan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Clemson University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Humanities. She also serves as Interim Associate Ph.D. Director. Her research focuses on digital history, late-nineteenth and twentieth-century U.S. history, with specializations in women’s history, LGBTQ studies, and cultural history.
Education: PhD in History from George Mason University (2019); MA in History from California State University, San Marcos (2013).
Research Highlights:
- Book Project: Shaping Up: Physical Fitness Initiatives for Women, 1880-1965 (under contract with University of Virginia Press).
- Co-Director of Mapping the Gay Guides, a digital humanities project analyzing LGBTQ spaces via historical travel guides.
Recent Work: Combines computational methods with traditional historiography to explore themes like state policies on women’s fitness, queer spatial histories, and digitizing historical texts (e.g., Eleanor Roosevelt’s columns).
