Amanda Reeser Lawrence

Amanda Reeser Lawrence is Professor and Associate Director at Northeastern University’s School of Architecture, where she has held leadership roles including Graduate Program Coordinator and Undergraduate Program Coordinator. She pioneered the BS in Architectural Studies degree and served as its coordinator for four years. Prior to Northeastern, she taught at UC Berkeley, MIT, and Harvard University.

Her research focuses on architectural history, theory, and criticism, particularly examining concepts of influence and originality in modern and contemporary architecture. She has authored and co-edited influential publications, including The Architecture of Influence (2024, shortlisted for Booklaunch Architecture Book Awards) and James Stirling: Revisionary Modernist (2013). Her work has been supported by prestigious institutions such as the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Graham Foundation, and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.

Current projects include a book manuscript on Frank Lloyd Wright’s Wasmuth Portfolio and collaborative research on Boston’s Southwest Corridor Project with Northeastern colleagues Lucy Maulsby, Sara Carr, and Mary Hale. She has also contributed to architectural discourse through editorial work, co-founding the award-winning journal Praxis (1999–2020).
