Dr. Amanda Pinheiro is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the Institute for the Study of International Migration within the Walsh School of Foreign Services at Georgetown University. She holds a Ph.D. in Global Studies from UC Santa Barbara, an M.A. in Latin American and Latinx Studies from UIC, and advanced training in Forced Migration (Oxford), Climate Migration (UC Berkeley), and Racial Justice in Border Studies (Cornell).
Her research focuses on the human impact of migration deterrence policies across the Americas, emphasizing race and ethnicity in migration and border studies. She teaches courses on global migration, climate displacement, and critical approaches to refugee and border studies. Prior to Georgetown, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Perry World House, University of Pennsylvania.
Her work integrates ethnographic methods and community-based research, advocating for intersectional analyses of migration policy.
