Amanda Matoushek is the Dean of the College of Arts, Education and Social Sciences and a Professor of Psychology at Bluefield State University. With a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from Binghamton University (2012), she specializes in the neurobiology of adolescent substance use and its long-term effects on neural development.

Dr. Matoushek’s research explores how adolescent alcohol and drug use alter brain development, and she collaborates with the Bluefield Police Department to evaluate community-based prevention programs for youth substance abuse and criminal activity. She also developed the Substance Abuse minor at Bluefield State.
Actively engaged in student mentorship, Dr. Matoushek advises the Biomedical Club, Suicide Prevention and Awareness Club, Big Blue Pride, and Pi Gamma Mu – International Honor Society for Social Sciences. Her teaching spans psychology and social science courses, emphasizing the science of adolescent brain development.
Personal interests include cooking, gardening, retro video games, and family time with her husband, daughter, and three dogs.
