Amanda Chapman is Associate Professor of English in the Department of Language and Literature at Glenville State University. She teaches British Literature, Children's Literature, Adolescent Literature, and Critical Reading and Writing. Her research specializes in nineteenth-century British children's literature, imperialism in literature, gender and sexuality studies, and the history of selfhood.
Current scholarly work involves developing a book proposal expanding her dissertation 'Self-consciousness and Childhood in the Long Nineteenth Century.' Recent publications analyze queer representations in adventure fiction and theatrical portrayals of childhood in classic literature.
Conference presentations include examinations of surveillance themes in young adult literature and homodomesticity in Victorian boys' literature. As faculty sponsor of the department's Twitter account, she promotes literary engagement through digital platforms.
