Amanda Bailey is Professor and Chair of the English Department at the University of Maryland. Her research focuses on early modern literature and culture, examining systems of oppression through political/legal theory. She serves on the Folger Institute's Executive Committee and has published influential monographs including Shakespeare on Consent.
Her honors include Mellon Foundation and Newberry Library fellowships. Current research explores Enlightenment technologies through literary and scientific frameworks.
