Amaia del Río

Amaia del Río is a Researcher at the University of the Basque Country through Hegoa Institute for International Cooperation and Development Studies. She holds degrees in Journalism and Sociology from the University of the Basque Country, and Master’s degrees in International Development and Cooperation (UPV/EHU) and Gender and Development (Complutense University of Madrid). Her work focuses on emancipatory education, critical feminisms, and decolonial approaches to social transformation.

Key roles include coordinating the journal Hariak. Recreando la educación emancipadora and leading projects like the Basque-Colombian articulation for experimental education initiatives. She actively participates in organizing national and international conferences on education for social transformation, including the upcoming 8th Conference in San Sebastián (2025).

Research interests span education for development, gender equality, ICT applications in education, and intersectional approaches to social justice. She contributes to critical university extension programs and eco-social workshops addressing climate justice and food sovereignty.
