Ama Law is an Artist in Residence in Dance at the University of Maryland's School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies. She holds a B.S. in Biology and a certificate in Women's Studies from the University of Maryland, and an M.F.A. in Dance from the same institution (2019). Her work bridges African dance traditions, hip hop, and social activism through art. She has taught at institutions including the Kennedy Center, Howard University, and Dance Place DC, and co-founded Project ChArma, a dance theater company focused on art as activism. Currently, she leads movement research and collaborates with UMD students and local communities, while directing the Dance Place DC’s Rooting the Dance Series.

Research interests include fusing dance traditions to address social justice issues, choreography as protest, and community-based performance. Her projects emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration and cultural preservation, particularly rooted in West African dance heritage and hip hop culture.
Awards and recognition include the Kennedy Center’s Local Dance Commissioning Fund (2024) for Project ChArma’s upcoming presentation. Grantly, the commission supports her ongoing exploration of art’s role in activism. She has also received support through the Bates Dance Festival and the Maya Brin Institute for New Performance Research.
Teaching and mentorship are central to her practice, having advised students at American University’s Dance Company and coordinated festivals. She actively seeks to inspire future generations of dancers to blend technical skill with intellectual depth.
