Amélie Addison

Amélie Addison is Lecturer in Music at Northumbria University specializing in William Shield studies, historical performance practice, and music pedagogy. Her doctoral research reconstructed the early career of Tyneside-born theatre composer William Shield, examining how Border heritage influenced his adaptation of national airs and contributed to the political resonance of his works.

As recipient of the BSECS/Northumbria Fellowship, she investigates Shield's connections with traditional fiddlers/pipers and the absorption of his compositions into folk archives. Her postdoctoral work examines nineteenth-century circus musicians' repertoires and occupational experiences. She develops experiential approaches to music theory education and engages in public scholarship through family-friendly historical performance demonstrations.
