Alyssa Hasty

Dr. Alyssa Hasty is a Professor of Internal Medicine and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Career Development at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She leads initiatives to enhance faculty recruitment, retention, and professional development while maintaining an active research program in immunometabolism. Her academic roles include vice provost responsibilities and membership in the Touchstone Diabetes Center.

Dr. Hasty earned her doctoral degree in Pathology from Vanderbilt University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Tokyo University. Her research focuses on the intersection of immunity and metabolism, particularly how the immune system influences obesity-related diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular conditions. Her work has been funded by NIH, VA, and foundations including the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research.

Her lab investigates macrophage biology in adipose tissue, iron homeostasis in metabolic disorders, and the immunological consequences of weight cycling. Key findings include identifying immune cell phenotypes persisting after weight loss and discovering roles for PD-1 in tumor immunity suppression under obesity.

Dr. Hasty has published over 120 papers and holds leadership positions in professional associations. Her lab's work bridges basic science and clinical implications, with studies exploring therapeutic targets for metabolic inflammation and immune dysfunction.
