Alyson Mercer

Dr Alyson Mercer is a historian at the University of Exeter within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her work centers on modern Britain, with a focus on museums and public history, analyzing how individuals engage with institutional resources to construct meaning about their surroundings.

Her research spans gender history, socio-cultural studies of memory and representation, and community engagement. A current project examines the impact of global shifts in collections management policy and ethics through collaboration with New Brunswick’s Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Canada), particularly in post-pandemic contexts.

In partnership with King’s College London, she explores trans-national migration studies, emphasizing family dynamics and intersections between personal litigation and contemporary legislation. Her contributions align with Exeter’s Heritage @Exeter research networks, blending academic inquiry with policy applications.
