Altan Heper is an Associate Professor in the Philosophy and Sociology of Law department at Özyeğin University's Faculty of Law. He also teaches comparative law at the University of Tübingen and has previously held part-time teaching roles at Akdeniz University (2001-2003) and part-time/visiting positions at the Universities of Würzburg (2009-2014) and Passau. He holds doctoral degrees from the University of Göttingen (comparative criminal law, 1989) and Istanbul University (European labor law, 1996), with a master's from the University of Kassel ('International Cooperation' with honors, 1988).

His research focuses on German law, human dignity, medical ethics, intercultural communication, philosophy of law, legal theory, and sociology of law. He has participated in scientific events in Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Romania, Azerbaijan, and China, and is currently a member of the Stuttgart and Istanbul Bar Associations while providing consultancy to civil society organizations.
