About
Alphan Telek is a doctoral researcher and lecturer at the Center for International Studies (CERI) affiliated with Sciences Po (Institut d'études politiques de Paris). He conducts research on political, social, and economic precarization in Turkish society while teaching undergraduate courses in Comparative Politics across Sciences Po campuses in Nancy and Reims.
His educational background includes:
- Honors degree in Political Science and International Relations from Marmara University
- Master's degree from Ataturk Institute for Modern Turkish History at Boğaziçi University with thesis on Iran and secularism
Telek's research centers on precarity, Turkish politics, populism, authoritarianism, and secularism, examining how political and economic insecurities shape contemporary Turkish society. His work connects theoretical frameworks about class analysis with empirical studies of social movements, demonstrating comparative insights across Turkey, Iran, and European contexts like the French Yellow Vests movement.
His publications reveal consistent focus on political mobilization amid precarization, with theoretical contributions to understanding populism as a global governance style. Telek bridges academic research with policy applications through his work on risk assessments and strategy proposals for Turkish politics.
Telek serves as Director of Development Program at the Istanbul Political Research Institute (IstanPol), which he co-founded, and previously directed Turkey operations at PS:EUROPE European Institute. He regularly contributes op-eds translated into multiple languages and provides expert commentary to Turkish media since 2017.
