About
Alon McCormick is a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on catalysis, nanomaterials, and reaction engineering, with applications in self-assembly, oil spill dispersants, and sustainable ammonia production.
- Education: B.S. (Tulane University, 1983), Ph.D. (UC Berkeley, 1987)
Research interests include:
- Characterization and engineering of self-assembly, dispersion, and emulsification in surfactant systems using cryo-SEM/TEM.
- Molecular engineering of dispersant systems for oil spills, supported by Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative.
- UV curing and microstructure development in coatings, in collaboration with Lorraine Francis and Greg Haugstad.
- Sustainable small-scale ammonia synthesis via high-temperature solid absorbents, with Ed Cussler and the Wind-to-Ammonia team.
