Allison Young

Allison Young is an Assistant Professor of Contemporary Art History at Louisiana State University (LSU) and an affiliate faculty member in the Department of African and African American Studies. She specializes in postcolonial and contemporary art of the Global South, focusing on African and African-Diasporic artists, migration, transnationalism, and political engagement in art. Her research has been supported by grants including a 2022 National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipend and a 2022 Franklin Research Grant.

• M.A. and Ph.D. in Art History, Institute of Fine Arts, NYU (2012, 2017)

Her current projects include a book on South African artist Gavin Jantjes and research on Louisiana’s environmental art and social justice intersections. She has curated notable exhibitions like Lina Iris Viktor: A Haven. A Hell. A Dream Deferred (2018) and contributed to platforms like Artforum and Smarthistory.

Teaching focuses on modern/contemporary art histories, curatorial theory, and African art in the Ogden Honors College. She advises through LSU’s Art & Design programs and collaborates with institutions like the New Orleans Museum of Art.
