Allen R. Carlson

Allen R. Carlson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Government at Cornell University. He serves as Director of the China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CAPS) program and is affiliated with the East Asia Program, South Asia Program, and Comparative Muslim Societies Program.

Education:

Research Focus: Carlson specializes in Chinese nationalism, Chinese foreign policy, and Asian security. His current research examines nontraditional security in China's evolving international relations, with geographic emphasis on Tibet and China.

Teaching: He teaches courses including 'What is China?', 'Making Sense of China: The Capstone Seminar', and 'China, Tibet and Xinjiang' at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
