Allen Porter is a Research Fellow at the University of Florida's Hamilton Center for Classical and Civic Education and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Princeton University's James Madison Program. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Rice University (2018), an M.A. from Tulane University (2013), and a B.A. from Princeton University (2010). His research focuses on continental philosophy, phenomenology, bioethics, and the philosophy of technology. Currently, he is editing a volume on Phenomenology & Posthumanism for Springer and preparing a book manuscript on the same topic.
He teaches courses such as (Un)Common Reads: Plato's Republic and Descartes’ Meditations. His work explores transhumanism, posthumanism, and their implications for ethics, education, and political theory. Before joining the Hamilton School, he was a John and Daria Barry Postdoctoral Fellow at Princeton.
Key research themes include deconstructive postmodernism, the ethics of life extension, and the intersection of technology with human identity. His publications span journals such as International Journal of Philosophical Studies and The Journal of Medicine and Philosophy.
