Allan Little

Allan Little is a Senior Fellow and Honorary Fellow in History at the University of Edinburgh. He studied Politics and Modern History at the University of Edinburgh, earning an MA in 1982. As a BBC correspondent since 1985, he has specialized in foreign affairs, covering pivotal events such as the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe (1989), the first Gulf War (1990-1991), and the breakup of Yugoslavia (1991-1995). He co-authored The Death of Yugoslavia (Penguin, 1995) and has served as BBC correspondent in Johannesburg, Moscow, and Paris.

Little has contributed to BBC Radio 4’s Today and television’s Newsnight, while authoring and presenting long-form documentary programs across radio and television. His journalism career spans decades, with a focus on conflict reporting and historical analysis. He currently chairs the Edinburgh International Book Festival since 2015.
