Professor Alistair Boxall directs the NERC-funded ECORISC Centre at the University of York's Environment Department. His research examines ecological and health risks from emerging contaminants including pharmaceuticals, nanomaterials and veterinary medicines.
Research focuses on:
- Global pharmaceutical pollution monitoring
- Climate change impacts on contaminant risks
- Nanomaterial fate in ecosystems
- Urban pollution assessment methodologies
Boxall has led major EU projects including CAPACITIE (€3.5M urban pollution monitoring) and iPiE (€10.3M pharmaceutical assessment). His global river monitoring study covered 200+ rivers across 102 countries.
Honors include SETAC Fellowship (2018), THE International Collaboration Award (2022), and Recipharm International Environmental Award (2016). He advises Defra, Environment Agency and international organizations on chemical risk management.
