Dr. Alison Stuebe is a Professor in the Department of Maternal and Child Health at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UNC School of Medicine. She is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and Distinguished Scholar in Infant and Young Child Feeding. Her work focuses on advancing equity in maternal health, breastfeeding promotion, and postpartum care. She earned her MD from Washington University School of Medicine, completed residency at Brigham and Women’s/Massachusetts General Hospital, and holds a Master’s in Epidemiology from Harvard.
Dr. Stuebe’s research addresses disparities in maternal health outcomes, breastfeeding barriers, and perinatal mental health. She leads interdisciplinary initiatives like the Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute and co-leads projects such as Thriving Hearts, aiming to improve maternity care equity. Her over 220 peer-reviewed articles and grants from NIH, AHRQ, and others reflect her commitment to evidence-based solutions.
Her awards include the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine’s Research Excellence Award and Duke University’s Distinguished Alumnae honor. She chairs the Orange County Board of Health and serves on committees for the National Academy of Sciences and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
