Alison Moyer

Alison Moyer is an Assistant Teaching Professor at Drexel University, serving as primary instructor for multiple sections of the HHMI SEA-PHAGES program since 2016. She teaches Bio 142, Bio 143, and Bio 144 courses across fall, winter, and spring quarters, covering phage discovery, genomic analysis, and independent research projects with freshmen students.

Her research focuses on bacteriophage biology using Microbacterium foliorum and Mycobacterium smegmatis hosts. She specializes in integrating wet-lab microbiology with computational genomics to advance undergraduate understanding of viral evolution and host-pathogen interactions within the SEA-PHAGES framework.

Dr. Moyer mentors 15-24 freshmen per section annually, guiding students through complete phage characterization workflows from isolation to genomic annotation. Her consistent involvement since 2016 demonstrates sustained commitment to undergraduate research education, frequently collaborating with colleagues like Susan Gurney and Matthew McDonald on course sections.
