About
Dr. Alison East is a Research Fellow in the Rhizosphere Group at the University of Oxford. She serves as project manager for the Synthetic Symbioses initiative, a six-center UK-US collaboration funded by BBSRC and NSF. This project focuses on engineering nitrogen fixation in bacteria associated with non-leguminous plants to improve agricultural sustainability.
Her research integrates bioinformatic analysis of rhizosphere gene expression with imaging techniques to study nutrient exchange and signaling dynamics in natural and synthetic symbiotic systems. These studies aim to uncover spatial and temporal mechanisms critical for plant-microbe interactions.
