Alison Berg

Dr. Alison Berg is an Assistant Professor and State Extension Nutrition and Health Specialist at the University of Georgia (UGA), affiliated with the College of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) and the Department of Nutritional Sciences. She leads community nutrition education programs across Georgia through Cooperative Extension, focusing on chronic disease prevention and health maintenance. A triple DAWG (UGA alumni), she holds bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from UGA. Her work emphasizes evaluating programs for obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer prevention in rural and underserved populations. Dr. Berg collaborates with Extension agents to deliver evidence-based interventions and has contributed to initiatives such as the Diabetes Prevention Program and weight management studies for older women.

Her research interests span community health strategies, school nutrition, senior health, and public health policy. She has pioneered programs like the ‘Healthy’Dining Hall study and evaluated interventions targeting Hispanic communities and rural food systems. While not formally teaching, she enjoys guest lecturing and mentoring FACS agents. Her professional highlights include witnessing participant success in weight management programs and advancing nutrition education through innovative curricula like the EFNEP youth programs.

Dr. Berg’s community involvement includes charity runs and advocating for food security. She emphasizes practical, accessible nutrition solutions and believes in the transformative potential of education for health equity. Her scholarship integrates program implementation frameworks (e.g., RE-AIM) and qualitative methods to assess real-world program impact, ensuring interventions are both effective and culturally responsive.
