Alice Stender

Alice Stender is a Professor at Universidad Pablo de Olavide, affiliated with the Department of Philology and Translation and the COMINTRAD: Specialized Translation and Multilingual Communication research group. Her research leverages the CRISCORP corpus, a comparable dataset of economic crisis-related media texts from Handelsblatt, Expansión, and Cinco Días (2007–2016), to analyze metaphors, euphemisms, and quantifiers in cross-linguistic contexts.

Her publications highlight a focus on economic metaphors (e.g., WAR and HEALTH domains), quantifier analysis in financial texts, and the didactic use of media like Game of Thrones to teach interpreting ethics. She explores how acronyms and lexical density shape specialized communication, often revealing disparities between conceptual clarity and linguistic coding. Her work also addresses the professional development of translators, using fictional characters to illustrate real-world career trajectories in the field.
