Alice Mauger

Dr. Alice Mauger is a Lecturer/Assistant Professor at University College Dublin's School of History. She researches the history of medicine, focusing on alcoholism, addiction, and psychiatry in Ireland. Her ERC-funded project investigates substance use among Irish diaspora communities.

Mauger analyzes cultural representations of addiction and the societal impacts of alcohol stereotypes. Her monograph on 19th-century asylums examines class-based institutionalization and medicalization of mental illness.

She directs the 'Bloomfield' history project and contributes to policy discussions on drug use. Mauger teaches modules on alcohol and society, emphasizing historical context in contemporary health debates.
