Alice Caldwell

Alice Caldwell is a Full Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Augusta University’s Medical College of Georgia. She holds an MPH from 2015 and is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics (1989). Her academic journey began with a B.S. in Zoology from Duke University (1976) and an M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia (1981).

Her research focuses on responsive parenting interventions, prevention of rapid weight gain in infants, smoking cessation in pediatric populations, and traumatic brain injury prevention. She collaborates with the University of Georgia (UGA) on studies targeting feeding practices and child care among first-time African American mothers.

Her recent publications include three 2023 articles in Pediatrics addressing tobacco and nicotine prevention, alongside 2014 studies on e-cigarettes and pediatric smoking cessation. Older work includes a 2013 randomized trial on newborn safety interventions and TBI prevention in youth.

Service & Leadership: She chairs the Pediatric Grand Rounds Committee (2018–Present) and the Newborn Nursery Committee (2014–Present). Active in the American Academy of Pediatrics, Georgia Chapter AAP, and Georgia Public Health Association over multiple decades.
