Aliana Abascal

Aliana Abascal is an Assistant Professor and General & Forensic Psychiatrist at the West Virginia University School of Medicine, Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry. She holds an MD from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed her residency at Emory University School of Medicine in 2017.

Her research focuses on forensic psychiatry, mental health law, and telemental health applications. Recent publications examine legal implications of mental impairment in post-conviction appeals, forensic telemental health curriculum development, and statutory definitions of mental disorder. She served as Chief Resident during her residency.
