About
Dr. Ali Polat is a Professor at the School of the Environment, University of Windsor. He serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Lithos and has held editorial roles in multiple journals including Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences and Geoscience Frontiers. His research focuses on trace element/isotope geochemistry, geodynamics, and Archean crustal evolution. He holds a B.Sc. from Istanbul Technical University, M.Sc. from University of Houston, and Ph.D. from University of Saskatchewan.
Education:
- B.Sc., Technical University of Istanbul, Turkey (1988)
- M.Sc., University of Houston, Texas, U.S.A. (1992)
- Ph.D., University of Saskatchewan, Canada (1998)
Research Interests: Dr. Polat explores petrogenesis of anorthosite-bearing intrusions, greenstone belts, and ophiolites across Canada, China, and Greenland. His work integrates geochemical analysis to understand ancient crustal evolution and mantle dynamics. Recent projects include studies on Paleozoic ophiolites in northern China and kimberlite petrogenesis in Ontario.
Awards:
- 2018: Visiting Distinguished Professor, China University of Geosciences
- 2016: Elected to Turkey’s Science Academy
- 2015: Outstanding Faculty Research Award, University of Windsor
- 2014: Geological Association of Canada’s W.W. Hutchison Medal
Teaching & Research: Teaches courses in petrology, geochemistry, and global tectonics. Active in research projects funded by Canada Foundation for Innovation and Ontario government grants. Hosts visiting scholars through Max-Planck and Humboldt Fellowships.
