Dr Ali FitzGibbon is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Arts, English and Languages at Queen’s University Belfast, where she has held full-time academic staff since 2019. She specializes in cultural policy, arts management, and the ethics of cultural production, with a focus on freelance artists and organizational decision-making in the arts sector.
Her research explores themes such as cultural sustainability, precarity in creative labor, and leadership ethics in festivals and performing arts organizations. She has contributed to policy advisory work for the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Belfast’s European Capital of Culture bid, alongside co-founding Fighting Words Belfast, a children’s creative writing charity.
FitzGibbon teaches on the MA in Arts Management program, focusing on leadership, strategic planning, and ethics. Her publications include analyses of the pandemic’s impact on arts workers and co-editing Cultural Policy: Perspectives on the island of Ireland (forthcoming 2026). Awards include being shortlisted for the ENCATC Research Award and recognized as a European Commission Confirmed Expert.
