Ali Bilgic

Ali Bilgic is a Professor of International Relations and Security at Loughborough University, UK, and holds the role of School Director of Global Engagement. Previously, he served as an Associate Professor at Bilkent University (Turkey) and as the Prince Claus Chair in Development and Equity at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (2017-2019). He holds a PhD from Aberystwyth University and an MA from Lund University.

His research focuses on Middle East politics, security studies, postcolonial and feminist international relations, and trust-building mechanisms. Key publications include Rethinking Security in the Age of Migration (2013) and Turkey, Power and the West (2016), with a co-authored work Positive Security (2022). He contributes to international journals like International Relations and Mediterranean Politics.

Bilgic leads projects such as the Norwegian Research Council-funded 'Disinformation and People' (2021-2025) and the Church of England-funded 'BAME Intercultural Worshipping Communities' (2019-2024). His consultancy work includes advising diplomatic missions and international firms on migration and Middle East politics.

He trains diplomats on migration management at the Clingendael Institute and writes for public platforms like The Conversation. His research emphasizes critical security paradigms, gendered analyses, and trust dynamics in global governance.
