About
Alfredo Hernandez is an Assistant Professor in Biology at Tufts University. His research focuses on enzymology of DNA replication mechanisms, particularly mitochondrial DNA maintenance and bacteriophage T7 replication systems. Using biochemical and biophysical approaches, his lab investigates how DNA polymerases and helicases coordinate to ensure faithful genome duplication.
Research Programs: 1) Polymerase exchange dynamics during mitochondrial DNA elongation, 2) Functional interactions between TWINKLE helicase and POLγ, 3) G-quadruplex resolution in mitochondrial DNA, and 4) Bacteriophage T7 replication complex assembly.
Teaching: Instructs courses in Biochemistry & Cell Metabolism, Graduate Research Design, and doctoral dissertation supervision.
