Alfred Vespremeanu-Stroe is a Professor of Physical Geography at the University of Bucharest's Faculty of Geography. He is Director of the Geomorphology, Geoarchaeology, and Paleoenvironments Research Group (GEODAR) and manages the Sfântu Gheorghe Marine and River Research Station. His research focuses on coastal geomorphology, geoarchaeology, paleoenvironmental reconstructions, and periglacial processes, with extensive fieldwork in the Danube Delta and Carpathian Mountains.
Education includes a PhD in Geography (2004) and habilitation (2015) from the University of Bucharest, with research stints at Loughborough University (UK) and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (USA). He teaches courses on oceanography, Black Sea geography, and coastal dynamics.
His research highlights include studies on Danube Delta evolution, permafrost dynamics in the Carpathians, and the interplay between coastal changes and human settlements. Over 15 key publications since 2012 reflect expertise in deltaic processes, geomorphic evolution, and environmental archaeology.
