Alexandria Ratzki-Leewing

Alexandria Ratzki-Leewing is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing, Division of Gerontology within the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, and the Clinical and Translational Research Informatics Center (CTRIC) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore. She also holds an Adjunct Professor position in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University in Canada.

Dr. Ratzki-Leewing's research focuses on leveraging person-reported data to capture the real-world burden of iatrogenic hypoglycemia (low blood sugar caused by diabetes treatments) in diverse adult populations. Her work spans interdisciplinary projects across more than 10 countries, with scientific contributions published in top-tier medical journals and incorporated into diabetes clinical practice guidelines including the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Standards of Care. She has developed expertise in real-world methods and data, health survey design, and person-reported outcome measures specifically related to diabetes management and hypoglycemia events.

Analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent focus on severe hypoglycemia (Level 3) in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes populations, with particular attention to older adults and the development of predictive models. Her work bridges epidemiological methods with clinical applications, emphasizing real-world data collection through innovative approaches like internet-based panel surveys.

Her work has been supported through various research grants that have enabled her international collaborations across 10+ countries.

Dr. Ratzki-Leewing leads research through the Clinical and Translational Research Informatics Center (CTRIC) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she directs the iNPHORM study (Investigating Novel Predictions of Hypoglycemia Occurrence Using Real-world Models), a prospective 12-wave internet-based panel survey examining hypoglycemia risk in adults with diabetes.
