Alexandre Bisson

Dr. Alexandre Bisson is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Brandeis University, affiliated with the Rosenstiel Basic Medical Sciences Research Center. His research focuses on archaeal cell biology, exploring how molecular systems in Archaea govern cellular organization, division, and environmental interactions. The Bisson Lab pioneers advanced techniques like plasmid-free genetic engineering, live-cell microscopy, and microfluidics to study archaeal cell dynamics. Bisson holds a Ph.D., M.Sc., and B.Sc. from Universidade de São Paulo (USP).

Research interests include the evolution of cytoskeletal systems, mechanisms of archaeal cell shape control, and the role of archaeal molecular components in eukaryotic emergence. The lab emphasizes interdisciplinary methods, combining in vivo imaging with biochemical reconstitution and computational analysis.
