Professor Alexandre Antonelli serves as Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford and Director of Science at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. His mission focuses on halting biodiversity loss through research on species distribution, evolutionary patterns, and accelerated scientific discovery methods, with emphasis on tropical ecosystems where biodiversity threats are most severe.
His interdisciplinary work bridges biodiversity science and conservation policy. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and leads Kew's science strategy to develop plant/fungi-based solutions for global challenges. Additional affiliations include Professor in Biodiversity and Systematics at the University of Gothenburg, where he founded the Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre.
