About
Alexandra Tzella is an Associate Professor in Applied Mathematics at the University of Birmingham, affiliated with the School of Mathematics. She specializes in mathematical modeling of fluid dynamics and environmental systems, focusing on transport phenomena in complex flows and porous media. Her work addresses environmental challenges such as pollutant dispersion and plankton distribution.
- Education:
- BA (Hons) in Mathematics, University of Cambridge, 2000
- DEA (Masters) in Theoretical Physics, Université Paris VI, 2002
- PhD in Applied Mathematics, University of Cambridge, 2008
Her research interests include large-scale random flows, porous media transport, reactive front propagation, and cut-off reactions. She employs analytical, numerical, and asymptotic methods to develop predictive models for environmental systems. Current collaborations include Prof. Jacques Vanneste (University of Edinburgh) and Prof. Dave Needham (University of Birmingham).
Alexandra has received prestigious fellowships from Marie-Curie and ENS, supporting her atmospheric research. She advises PhD students Yahya Farah (EPSRC-funded) and Alex D. O. Tisbury (EPSRC-funded). Her work bridges theoretical fluid dynamics with practical applications in climate science and engineering.
