Prof. Dr. Alexandra Retkowski is a Professor of Social Services for Structurally Weak Regions at the Institute of Social Work, BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg since April 2019. Previously, she held positions including Junior Professor for Professional Ethics (2013–2018) and Substitute Professor for Social Pedagogy (2011–2013) at the University of Kassel. Her research focuses on ethics in social work, child protection, and structural social services, particularly addressing violence prevention and marginalized communities.

Her key research initiatives include the T-Space project on social housing advice and ProWoB on professionalization in social work. Her academic leadership includes coordinating interdisciplinary projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and fostering international collaborations in social ethics and pedagogy.
