Dr. Alexandra Hendley is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Murray State University, affiliated with the College of Humanities & Fine Arts. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a doctoral emphasis in Feminist Studies, and a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from Southwestern University (summa cum laude).
Her research focuses on gender inequality, work/occupations, and identity negotiation. Notable projects include studies on women Nobel laureates and the culinary profession’s gender dynamics. She teaches courses on gender, food studies, qualitative methods, and sociology of work. Her work has been recognized with the 2017 College of Humanities & Fine Arts Excellence in Scholarly & Creative Activity Award.
Dr. Hendley advises Alpha Kappa Delta (International Sociology Honor Society) and Omicron Delta Kappa (National Leadership Honor Society). She actively contributes to pedagogical resources via the ASA’s TRAILS repository. Her research spans qualitative investigations of identity construction in professional contexts and cultural representations of gender.
