Dr. Alexandra Hay is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the BA Education degree in the School of Education within Manchester Metropolitan University's Faculty of Health and Education. With prior experience as a secondary school teacher and department lead, she holds a BA in Social and Cultural Studies (University of Nottingham), MA in Women's Studies and Feminist Research (University of Manchester), PGCE with QTS, Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in HE (both with distinction from MMU), and an EdD from Keele University.
Research interests center on:
- Sociology of education with focus on policy enactment
- Academy trusts, federations and change management
- Educational leadership frameworks
- Application of Actor-Network Theory
- Practitioner identity and autoethnographic methods
Publications explore policy enactment frameworks, professional doctorate pathways, and employability pedagogies. Teaching includes undergraduate units: Academic and Professional Development, Policy and Politics in Education, and dissertation supervision across BA Education, Early Years, and Education Psychology programs.
Professional affiliations include Senior Fellowship in the Higher Education Authority (SFHEA) and memberships in The International Education Studies Association and UK Advising and Tutoring Association.
