Alexandra Cirone is an Assistant Professor at the London School of Economics (LSE), holding a joint appointment in the School of Public Policy (SPP) and the Department of Government. She also serves as a Researcher at BI Norwegian Business School and a Non-Resident Fellow at Yale University's ISPS Democratic Innovations Program. Her research focuses on political selection, lottocratic governance, historical political economy, and democratic institutions. She combines quantitative methods with archival research and has published in top journals like the American Political Science Review and World Politics.
Education: Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University (2021), A.B. in Political Science from the University of Chicago (2006). Previously, she was faculty at Cornell University and a postdoc at LSE’s PSPE group. She also worked at Harvard Kennedy School's Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD).
Research Interests include: political economy, game theory, gender politics, and European politics. She explores institutional design in democracies, leveraging historical data and experimental designs.
Awards: Winner of the 2022 APSA Jack Walker Award and Honorable Mention for the 2020 APSA Mary Parker Follett Prize. Her work on gender representation is supported by a Norwegian Research Council grant (Dynamics of Political Selection).
Advising & Grants: Co-PI on the Norwegian grant studying seniority systems and gender representation. Adviser to Meta's Governance Innovation Council and Community Forums. Organizes the Historical Political Economy Working Group and serves on editorial boards for Journal of Historical Political Economy and Legislative Studies Quarterly.
Labs/Teams: Active in Stanford DDL's Deliberation & Technology Research Group. Co-founder of Broadstreet.blog, a platform for historical political economy discussions.
