Alexandra Boutros

Alexandra Boutros is an Associate Professor in Communication Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario. She is a scholar in the fields of Afrofuturism, Critical Race Theory, Cultural Studies, Popular Culture, Religion and Media, Social Movements, Alternative Media, and Alternative Health.

Her research focuses on the intersection of media, technology, and identity within religious, social, and cultural movements. Earlier work examined diasporic Haitian Vodou in media and technology contexts, while current projects investigate ubiquitous computing and Afrofuturism—particularly transnational networks in diasporic hip hop communities (funded by a SSHRC Insight Development Grant).
