About
Dr. Alexander V. Statsyuk is an Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in the Department of Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. His research focuses on leveraging chemical biology to address disease mechanisms, with a particular emphasis on the ubiquitin system and covalent drug discovery.
- Education: Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry (University of Chicago, 2008), Diploma in Chemistry (Lomonosov Moscow State University, 2003)
The Statsyuk laboratory develops novel therapeutic modalities, including:
- Ultra-selective drugs targeting disease mutations
- Ternary pharmacology approaches with disease-specific helper proteins
- Antibody-drug conjugates and covalent therapeutics
- Activity-based probes for ubiquitin signaling pathways
His work spans chemistry, structural biochemistry, pharmacokinetics, and cell biology. Recent publications highlight innovations in:
- Covalent fragment screening
- Mass spectrometry-based interaction mapping
- Ubiquitin ligase mechanistic probes
- Enzyme mechanism modulation
Scientific Awards: Pew Scholar in the Biomedical Sciences (2012)
