Alexander Stoffel

Dr. Alexander Stoffel is a Lecturer in International Politics at Queen Mary University of London's School of Politics and International Relations. He holds a BA from the University of Oxford, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and a PhD from Queen Mary University of London. His research critically examines intersections of sexuality, race, and desire within capitalist systems, with a focus on transnational struggles for sexual freedom. He is an editor of Historical Materialism and convenes the Sexuality and Political Economy Network. His first monograph, Eros and Empire, forthcoming with Stanford University Press, rethinks U.S.-based queer movements through a transnational lens.

Research interests span queer theory, Marxist analysis, global historical sociology, and affect theory. His work challenges mainstream frameworks by centering radical internationalist perspectives. He has secured research funding from the Leverhulme Trust for his doctoral work and frequently speaks at global academic conferences.

Teaching includes courses on gender and capitalism, qualitative methods, and international relations theory. He advises students on gender/sexuality, imperialism, and Marxist approaches.
