Alexander Skantze

Alexander Skantze is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Film and Media, Stockholm University of the Arts. His research focuses on innovative narrative techniques beyond classical storytelling frameworks, particularly exploring them-driven approaches to film and media. Collaborating with Maria Hedman Hvitfeldt and Mamdooh Afdile, he investigates thematic storytelling in writing, visualization, and screenwriting practices. His work challenges traditional Aristotelian structures by emphasizing thematic coherence over plot-driven narratives. Key outputs include a 2024 chapter in Practice Sharing II and the 2023 artistic work Brunnsdjup. Skantze’s research was presented at an artistic seminar at his institution in 2023. He actively contributes to language-based artistic research, as seen in his participation in the Society for Artistic Research’s initiatives.
