Alexander Rasin

Dr. Alexander Rasin is a Professor at DePaul University in the Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM), where he serves as co-Director of the Data Systems and Optimization Lab. His research focuses on cybersecurity, database forensics, biomedical data integration, and query optimization, supported by grants from the NSF and NIST.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Brown University
• M.Sc. in Computer Science, Brown University

Research Interests: Prevention of data tampering/exfiltration, establishment of database forensic standards, fine-grained access control policies, and optimization of domain-specific data systems (e.g., biomedical data, user-defined predicate queries). He also explores physical database design and indexing techniques.

Teaching: Courses include Database Systems, Principles of Database Management, and Mining Big Data, with frequent offerings of Database Processing for Large-Scale Analytics. Office hours are posted on D2L, and advising appointments are scheduled via OneDePaul.
