About
Alexander Pietras is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at Lund University's Division of Translational Cancer Research within the Faculty of Medicine and Lund University Cancer Centre (LUCC). His research focuses on therapeutic resistance in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), aiming to identify strategies targeting cancer stem cells and microenvironmental control mechanisms.
Research Highlights:
- Investigates radiation-resistant stem-like cells using mouse models and human glioma cultures.
- Studies hypoxia, DLK1 signaling, and CD44-HIF-2α interactions in tumor phenotypes.
- Develops novel therapeutic approaches for malignant brain tumors through microenvironmental targeting.
Supervised Students:
- Rosberg, R. (2020–present): Dissertation on cell-cell interactions in glioma resistance.
- Pantazopoulou, V. (2017–2021): Dissertation on FIH-1 in GBM.
Scientific Activities:
- Co-organized LUCC-CNS webinars on drug delivery and glioma recurrence (2024–2025).
- Presented at LUCC-SUHCCC Day (2024) on radiotherapy-induced microenvironmental changes.
